Enjoy an ancient borough's exuberant revival

Haggerston finds itself at the epicentre of a social and cultural explosion. Hackney neighbours, Hoxton, Shoreditch and Dalston, are some of the most prospering and exciting urban areas in London, or even Europe. Famous for their creative bias, these communities have naturally become a melting pot of bars, clubs, coffee houses, internationally-inspired eateries, eclectic boutiques and art galleries. However, as the infrastructure develops, the area is increasingly attracting the mainstream; supermarkets and everyday facilities are now equally prevalant. For further inspiration, Islington, to the north, is the area's well-established destination for shopping and entertainment.

But amid all the excitement of recent years, the area's history has clung on in the form of its markets: Broadway, Ridley Road and Columbia Road stand as the area's bustling bastions of independent retail. And as well as the flourishing commercial realm, you'll find a surprising abundance of green spaces here, with Haggerston Park, London Fields and Hackney City Farm being prime examples. Nearby Regent's Canal, too, provides the walker and cyclist with a welcome break from city streets.
